One man is in custody and four others are in the hospital after a car chase that occurred early Saturday morning in Hazleton.
The incident began when police observed a black BMW nearly strike a pedestrian by Cleveland Street in Hazleton around 2:30 Saturday morning.
When police attempted to pull the vehicle over, they fled, going through multiple stop signs without slowing.
While attempting to make a turn, the vehicle hit a large patch of ice and slid into St. Joseph's Hospital, disabling the vehicle. Jason De La Cruz, the driver, attempted to flee from the scene but was apprehended by officers.
The passengers were taken to area hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.
De La Cruz faces multiple charges pending his arraignment.
