The 2018 Salvation Army Red Kettle Drive fell $19,886 short of its $96,000 goal.
According to the Republican Herald, $76,114 was raised for the effort that started in November and ended 5 p.m. Dec. 24.
The organization said the lack of consistent volunteers contributed to the shortfall, however, cutting programs will be a last resort. In light of the shortfall, the organization will reevaluate its budget to see how it can reduce expenses and save money.
Between 18 and 20 volunteers were at the various locations this year. Ideally, 30 people are needed. In 2019, the Salvation Army Red Kettle Drive will make a more concerted effort earlier to get the word out about volunteers.
