UGI Rate increase...

UGI Penn Natural Gas customers could see their bills jump about 11 percent if state regulators approve a rate increase.

The public utility, which serves Northeast and Central Pennsylvania, asked the state Public Utility Commission on Thursday to allow it to raise service delivery rates for residential, commercial and industrial customers.

According to UGI the increase, if granted by the PUC, would raise rates for the typical residential customer using 9,120 cubic feet per month by 10.6 percent or $8.34.

A gas bill has two essential parts: the purchase price of gas and the delivery service charge.

Public utilities by law are not allowed to profit from gas; so the charge represents a pass-through to customers based on the commodity price set quarterly.
