As temperatures drop, finding shelter becomes a priority for the homeless.
The National Weather Service, in State College, declared a wind chill advisory in effect from 7 p.m. Sunday until 1 p.m. today. Wind chills could be 20 degrees below zero.
The nonprofit “Servants to All” at 4 S. Centre St., Pottsville, helps the homeless.
According to the Republican Herald, people can stop by the homeless center between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday or call 570-900-1161.
Officials say those who go to the overnight shelter can be referred to the emergency room for treatment if needed. They can also go to a local hotel and transportation will be provided.
This week, volunteers will be doing the annual point-in-time homeless count Wednesday through Feb. 1.
Volunteers will count the unsheltered people in the community. A survey will be done as part of the count. Those receiving services do not need to participate in the survey.
