The Mahantongo Parking Deck will likely be gone by May or June.
According to the Republican Herald, the Pottsville Parking Authority approved demolition plans for the structure, which has been closed since October 2016, after a contractor doing maintenance and repair work found deteriorated structural reinforcing.
The demolition of the deck is the next step to realize a vision for a new parking deck.
Richard “Dick” Yuengling Jr. is donating up to $2.8 million for the project, which includes plans for a 27,000-square-foot theater complex on top of the newly constructed structure.
There will also be an elevator and escalator to gain access to the facility and will include about 240 parking spaces for visitors to the city, theater and Yuengling Brewery.
