DUI/Super Bowl...

As the Super Bowl approaches Sunday, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is teaming up with Schuylkill County police to remind football fans that designated drivers are the best defense against the dangers of drunk driving.

David Everly, regional coordinator of the North Central Regional DUI Enforcement Program said that safety should be the number one priority so when it’s time to leave the party make sure the designated driver is actually sober. In addition, Everly said that walking impaired can also be dangerous so designate a sober friend to walk home with you if needed.

Everly stressed that it is illegal everywhere in the United States to drive with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 percent or higher.

Anyone who may see a drunk driver should call 911 immediately.

Thousands die each year in drunk-driving related crashes, including 10,874 killed in 2017.

More information on the dangers of drunk driving can be found by visiting www.trafficsafetymarketing.gov.
