Schuylkill County District Attorney Christine A. Holman said there were no cases heard on the opening day of the Schuylkill County Drug Treatment Court, but there may be at least one defendant participating next week.
According to the Republican Herald, Holman said the defendant, whom she declined to identify, will be arraigned next week.
Judge James P. Goodman will preside over the court and said the meetings will be held at 9:30 a.m. every Thursday, with the court sessions to follow at 10 or 10:30.
The court is part of an effort to stem the drug epidemic that has hit the county, as well as the rest of the state and country. Officials have discussed establishing the court for more than two years and obtained federal and state funding in 2016 to enable them to launch the 14 month program.
