A Hazleton man was arrested on bird fighting charges.
According to the Republican Herald, 40 year old Alexandro Martinez was charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor counts after an investigation led the SPCA to obtain a search warrant for his residence where they found two adult fighting birds, chicks, eggs and bird fighting evidence.
The SPCA, which took temporary custody of the birds, is not sure what the fate of the roosters and chicks will be, because it’s likely the fighting birds would kill other birds in a sanctuary setting.
Martinez was released on $5,000 unsecured bail but could face about 20 years in jail plus be responsible to pay fines and court costs if convicted.
