Pennsylvania motorists are being warned to reduce their speed this fall as deer encounters on the road become more prevalent during deer mating season.
State Farm released its annual deer claim study, which ranks states by the potential drivers had of hitting a large animal, including deer, over a given time period.
The insurance company recently released its 2016 annual deer collision stats where Pennsylvania is No. 3 with a 1-in-67 chance of collision. Pennsylvania was No. 4 last year with a 1-in-70 chance of collision.
Schuylkill County drivers may be taking heed, and may be driving slower. Data released from the state Department of Transportation show the number of deer struck, as well as the number of deer-related accidents and injuries in the county actually decreased in 2014, the last year of recorded data released.
PennDOT reminds motorists that if a dead deer presents an obvious safety hazard on state roadways, they can call 800-FIX-ROAD to have the deer removed.
