Former Democratic Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane will learn today in Montgomery County Court whether she is heading to prison over a feud that led the state attorney general to leak grand jury materials to the press and lie about it under oath.
Kane argues that the loss of her career, law license and reputation is punishment enough and has asked Judge Wendy Demchik-Alloy, in suburban Philadelphia, to sentence her to probation or house arrest so she can be home to raise her two teenage sons.
Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele contends a prison sentence is warranted.
Kane, who became the first Democrat and first woman to be elected attorney general, in 2012, was convicted Aug. 15 of perjury, among other counts after prosecutors said she leaked information about a 2009 grand jury probe of a Philadelphia man to a newspaper to embarrass the prosecutor in that case.
She resigned Aug. 17.
The sentence could range from probation to a maximum 12 to 24 years in prison.
