Schuylkill County commissioners voted on Wednesday to apply to state officials for a grant of just over $1 million to repair and repave the road and improve access to the Schuylkill County airport.
According to the Republican Herald, the road, one of two the county owns, is approximately 1 mile long and provides the only access to Schuylkill County Joe Zerbey Airport, located just off Route 901.
It covers 34 acres, serves primarily private planes and is located near both Schuylkill Highridge Business Park and the Federal Correctional Institution/Schuylkill.
County Administrator Gary R. Bender said the county will submit the application for the grant of $1,022,740 as soon as possible to the state Department of Transportation.
