An early morning fire, Thursday, in Mahanoy City sent one man to a burn center.
The fire destroyed the home of 38 year old Thomas Chatkiewicz. Firefighters were called to the home at 4 N. Eighth St. about 5:50 a.m. and found the single home fully engulfed in flames.
Authorities said Chatkiewicz managed to escape the blaze and after being treated at the scene, was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest by ambulance for treatment of burns he received while trying to escape.
David Truskowsky, Mahanoy City Fire Department public relations officer, said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under investigation. Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal Trooper John F. Burns of the Frackville station is assisting in trying to determine the cause.
The extent of Chatkiewicz’s injuries was not known, but emergency personnel at the scene said they do not appear to be life-threatening.
No other injuries were reported.
