The Frackville Elks Lodge 1533 embraced the season of giving Sunday, distributing free Thanksgiving turkeys.Lodge members distributed 248 turkeys during the first frozen turkey giveaway, which was made possible by a $2,000 grant from the Elks National Foundation Inc.
In requesting the grant, the membership wanted to see how they could “lighten the burden” for families around the holidays. In other years, the lodge used the grant funds for smoke detectors and other community projects.
Lodge exalted ruler Robert Yutko Jr., said the giveaway was a success and something they could attempt to do next year.
