President-elect Donald Trump has offered U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta a job as secretary of labor.
According to the Republican Herald, in a telephone interview after the meeting, Tuesday, Barletta said he plans to decide in “a day or so,” because he wants to decide whether he could do more good as labor secretary or by remaining a congressman.
Barletta, a Republican was just re-elected to a fourth two-year term and said he would return to Congress with more influence because of his close relationship with the president-elect, whose successful Pennsylvania campaign he co-chaired with Rep. Tom Marino.
The congressman said he has a good relationship with unions going back to his days as mayor dealing with city public safety and other unions and working on union-related issues in Congress.
Barletta was Hazleton’s mayor from 2000 to 2011.
