Traditionally when the city of Pottsville declares a snow emergency, West Market Street is designated as a snow emergency route.
The Mahantongo Parking Center used to be a place where people who park on West Market could temporarily park their vehicles. However, the Pottsville Parking Authority closed the four-level deck Oct. 28 after a contractor making repairs found deteriorated structural reinforcing.
The Republican Herald reports that this year, residents will be able to use the Pottsville Area School District’s Academic Center, lower lot; The Capitol Parking Deck; The Arch Street parking lot; The Union Street parking lot and the east side of the parking lot at Boyer’s Food Market, located at 2247 W. Market St., Pottsville.
The city will post the updated plan on its website at www.city.pottsville.pa.us/html/snow.htm.
Schuylkill County citizens are also encouraged to register to receive emergency notifications through “Schuylkill Alert: Emergency Alerts and Community Notifications,” a program run by the Schuylkill County Emergency Management Agency.
