Additional charges...

60 year old Edward C. Smith, of Tamaqua, who had been charged in Luzerne County Court with unlawful contact with a minor and attempted involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, now also faces a second count of unlawful contact with a minor, along with other charges.

State Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced Wednesday that Smith, a former deputy coroner in Carbon and Schuylkill counties, allegedly had sexual contact with a teenage boy, when the child was 14 and 15 years old, beginning in 2015 at the defendant’s residence.

Smith is being held in pretrial detention in Luzerne County Prison as the result of his initial arrest.

Bail has been set at $250,000 straight cash on the new charges. A preliminary hearing on the new charges is scheduled for Dec. 19th.

Deputy Attorney General Angela L. Raver is prosecuting the case against Smith.
