The Schuylkill County commissioners approved a preliminary 2017 budget Wednesday that includes a 1 mill increase for property owners in the county.
According to the Republican Herald, the real estate millage will increase to 14.98 mills. The per capita tax will remain at $5.
Paul Buber, county finance director, said that the average value of a residential home in the county is $63,190 and the average assessment is $31,595, meaning that the 1 mill increase will be approximately an additional $31.59 per year for the average home owner.
The final budget will be presented to the board for action on Dec. 28.
