PA Governor Tom Wolf is looking at ways to cut the state's budget deficit and has announced a plan to create the Department of Health and Human Services.
Wolf is expected to propose combining the departments of Human Services, Health, Aging, and Drug and Alcohol programs.
Wolf's office says the state faces a $2 billion budget deficit and these four separate state agencies have the same core mission: to improve public health and quality of life for all residents of the commonwealth, serving similar, and sometimes overlapping, populations.
The governor is expected to release his proposed budget for the next fiscal year early this month.
