23 year old Malea M. Schoffstall, formerly of Schuylkill Haven, left the Schuylkill County courthouse a free woman after Schuylkill County Judge William Baldwin dismissed all charges against her in the death of her 3 month old daughter.
Schuylkill Haven borough police alleged Schoffstall and the baby’s father, Dennis J. Wiederhold, kept Maya Wiederhold and Layla Bertil in poor conditions, with no beds for the youngsters and drug paraphernalia all around.
Baldwin decided prosecutors failed to prove all charges they had filed against the defendant in connection with the death of 3-month-old Maya Jane Wiederhold.
Baldwin said what she did the day her daughter died in May 2014 was tragic, and might have been negligent, but it was not criminal.
