Police are investigating a scam involving phone calls from someone claiming to be from a collection agency for the Lansdale Electric Department.
According to a press release, police responded to a complaint by someone who said he had been receiving phone calls at his religious organization from an individual trying to collect an outstanding debt on the organization's Lansdale electric bill.
Police called the phone number of the suspected scam artist and spoke to an individual who identified himself as "Travis." The man told police that the reporting party would receive a confirmation call from Lansdale Electric Department the following day.
However, Lansdale officials warn residents and business owners that the Lansdale Electric Department does not use a collection agency to collect outstanding debts, nor does any other borough department.
Any payments owed to the borough should be made to Lansdale Borough Hall per borough-approved practices.
