An overnight standoff in Northumberland County came to an end Tuesday morning when a man suspected of shooting to death a relative and holding a hostage at gunpoint Monday night was rushed to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Authorities say 41 year old Jose Colon, of Shamokin, suffered serious gunshot wounds after exchanging fire with police at his barricaded West Sunbury Street apartment.
Authorities suspect Colon fatally shot his 23-year-old niece, Kasandra Ortiz, of Shamokin, in a lot at the corner of North Rock and Spurzheim streets at about 8:30 p.m. Monday.
Colon is reportedly in critical condition at Geisinger after being taken into custody following the standoff.
