The Mahanoy Area School District plans to reconfigure the arrangements of classes for the2017-18 school year.
According to the Republican Herald, the plan would eliminate the middle school designation and shift those grades to the elementary and high schools. Currently, the elementary school includes kindergarten to fourth grade. The middle school has fifth through eighth grade. And the high school has ninth through 12th grades.
Under the proposed plan, the elementary school will be kindergarten through sixth grade, and the high school will include seventh through 12th grades.
Essentially having two instead of three school buildings. Any changes will require approval from the state Department of Education.
The school board will hold a DOE-required public hearing at 6 p.m. on Feb. 21 in the district auditorium to receive input on the idea.
