The transgender bathroom wars have come to Schuylkill County.
According to the Republican Herald, Tracey Handling, the mother of an 8-year-old student identified as A.H., filed a complaint in U.S. District Court, alleging Minersville Area School District discriminated against her child by refusing to treat her as a girl.
According to the lawsuit, “she is (a) transgender girl who has been diagnosed with gender dysphoria by medical professionals.”
Handling asked the court to issue an injunction to force Minersville Area to treat A.H. as a girl in all ways, including allowing her to use female restrooms, clarify anti-sex discrimination policies to include transgender students, provide training to district employees and pay compensatory damages, costs and attorney fees and demanded a jury trial in the case.
The lawsuit is one of several filed around the United States as the issue has become a matter of public controversy that also has seen some states enact or consider laws regulating bathroom use.
