Delay for Gillingham...

The hearing to determine the future of Gillingham Charter School in Pottsville, has been delayed.

According to the Republican Herald, Nicole Reigelman, press secretary for the state Department of Education, Harrisburg, said issues regarding supplements the charter school and Pottsville Area School District submitted in October and December contributed to the delay.

On March 17, Sandra W. Stoner, the hearing officer for the Pennsylvania Charter Appeal Board in Harrisburg, denied some of their requests.

The legal reasons were outlined in an “Order Regarding Parties’ Motions To Supplement The Record and Setting Briefing Deadlines,” written by Stoner, who also set “briefing deadlines” for the appeal. Under that schedule Gillingham’s brief is due on April 19, and the district’s brief on May 19.

The charter school then has until June 5 to file a reply brief, so the hearing may not be held until June or July.
