Work has begun to demolish the blighted building that started to collapse this week on South Third Street, in Pottsville.
According to the Republican Herald, workers from AMC Enterprises, Girardville, arrived Tuesday at the home to do interior and minor exterior work.
On Monday, part of the building in the back had fallen away. Acting Mayor Mark Atkinson signed an emergency declaration related to the property because the structure was causing a threat to public safety.
The demolition plan for the building includes installing plywood to act as a barrier to prevent damage to nearby building.
Once the building is knocked down, siding will be installed on the outside of the wall of neighboring 122 S. Third St.
The city is paying for the approximate $24,500 demolition of the property. A lien will be put on the property that is owned by GF Real Estate Development Inc., Queens, New York.
