The FBI is warning senior citizens that the so-called grandparents scam is back.
The report states that senior citizens are being called with a frightening message: that a grandchild is in jail and needs bail money to get out.
The FBI says seniors are often targets of scams such as this because they're more likely to have money in a nest egg, more likely to have excellent credit, and less likely to report fraud.
The FBI believes the scammers often monitor social media to learn a grandchild might be in foreign country, or on business in the U.S. to make the fake call more believable to a grandparent and are warning residents not to give money and to notify police if they receive such a call.
