The application deadline for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program has been extended.
The federal program is funded by the federal government and provides assistance during the winter for heating bills and heat-related problems. LIHEAP applications are available to renters and homeowners.
Funding is provided to those who qualify based on where they live, income, number of people in the household and type of fuel used. Schuylkill County is in Region 2.
The application period, which opened for the season on Nov. 1, was slated to end today, but Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration decided to extend the deadline to April 7.
Online applications are available at www.compass.state.pa.us or at the local county assistance office in Pottsville. The statewide LIHEAP Hotline for more information is 866-857-7095.
