Schuylkill, Luzerne and Carbon counties are among the 15 unhealthiest counties in the state, according an annual report released last week that rates each county on overall health.
The Republican Herald reports that the rankings are a collaboration between the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, which compare more than 30 health-influencing factors, such as access to doctors, education, activities, jobs and housing.
The report found that nationwide more people are dying prematurely and that drug overdoses and other injury deaths fueled this spike.
According to the 2017 County Health Rankings, Schuylkill County ranked 64th out of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties, Luzerne County came in at 62nd and Carbon County ranked 54th.
