Pennsylvania is the only state where municipal police are not allowed to use radar to catch speeders.
Only state police can use radar to detect speeding. But now some lawmakers and law enforcement are asking for a change.
A House bill has been introduced that would create a six-year pilot program allowing municipal police officers to use radar to detect speed.
The "National Motorists Association" argues radar devices are prone to error and expanding its use to municipal police would lead to speed traps, designed solely for collecting revenue and not keeping the roads safe, however, the pilot program discussed in the House bill won't allow a driver to be prosecuted if it's shown a municipality is using radar to generate revenue.
