Charter School Bill...




A new bill was introduced May 1 to address the cyber charter school funding controversy in Pennsylvania. 

According to the Republican Herald, Senate bill 590 establishes a charter school funding advisory commission to, among other things, “assesses the actual cost of educating a child in the charter school, a regional charter school, a cyber-charter school, and a school district or an intermediate unit utilizing cyber classes. 

Meanwhile, Senate bill 34, and House bill 526 propose that if a student attends a cyber-charter school in their district that is not offered by the district, the students’ parents or guardian must pay the bill.

 All three bills are in the education committee in the House or the Senate. No votes have been taken.
