One flown after crash...

One person was flown to an area hospital after a crash early Wednesday.

West Penn Township Chief of police Brian Johnson discovered the crash while on patrol around 2am as he was traveling south on Route 309 about a mile north of the intersection with Route 443 in South Tamaqua.

The chief saw what he thought were marks leading off the roadway onto a private lot and found two heavily damaged trucks in front of the Anthracite Welding Company. A pickup truck was lying on its side a distance from the two trucks. An 18-year-old West Penn man was ejected from the wreckage and was severely injured.

Johnson believes the crash occurred possibly several hours before it was discovered.

The victim, whom Johnson reported had his driver’s license one day, was flown to the St. Luke’s Hospital Trauma Center in Bethlehem.

His identity has not yet been released.
