Schuylkill County has been plagued by a near record setting number of wildfires and residents are being reminded that the County is under a temporary open burning ban as declared by the Schuylkill County commissioners.
The county ban prohibits outdoor burning in burn barrels, fire rings or on open ground.
Grilling on gas or charcoal grills for preparing food is permitted.
Residents violating the ban face fines of $100 for the first offense, $200 for the second offense and $300 for additional violations. Violators are also responsible for the cost of extinguishing of any wild land fires they cause.
The county ban will end at noon May 22.
