Memorial Day Celebrations...




Citizens and organizations across the county will join together to honor the fallen this Memorial Day and Memorial Day weekend. 

According to the Republican Herald, events will be held in Frackville, Girardville, Gordon, Mahanoy City and numerous other communities including the annual Memorial Day parade in Pottsville. 

The parade will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday and forms at 12th and West Market streets. 

The event also includes a Ceremony at 11 a.m., in Garfield Square.

List of Memorial Day events

ASHLAND — Parade, 11 a.m. Monday, followed by program at St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church. Sponsored by American Legion Post 434.

AUBURN — Parade, 9 a.m. Monday. In case of rain, parade canceled and services, 10 a.m., Auburn Church of God. Sponsored by Auburn VFW.

FRACKVILLE — Parade, 9 a.m. Monday, forms 8:30 a.m. at M&T Bank. Ceremony 9:30 a.m. at Memorial Park.

GIRARDVILLE — Parade, 9:30 a.m. Monday from Main and Julia streets. Ceremony 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial, Third and Ogden streets. Sponsored by American Legion Post 309.

GORDON — Service, 9 a.m. Monday, Gordon Community Hall; parade 10 a.m. Monument service follows parade outside Community Hall. Hosted by AMVETS Post 44 and Citizens Fire Company.

HAMBURG — Parade, 9 a.m. Monday, War Memorial, State Street. Programs after parade at Greenwood, St. Mary and St. John cemeteries. In event of rain, ceremonies will be at 10 a.m., Hamburg Armory.

MAHANOY CITY — Memorial Mass, 10 a.m. Saturday, St. Casimir Cemetery. Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Kevin Gallagher.

MAHANOY CITY — Program, 2 p.m. Sunday, Veterans Memorial, Centre and Catawissa streets. Upper Schuylkill Marching Band will perform at 1:30 p.m. Parade forms 10:30 a.m., starts 11 a.m. Monday.

MINERSVILLE — Parade, 9 a.m. Monday. Ceremony following parade at Boys Little League field at Recreational Complex.

NEW PHILADELPHIA — Parade, 8:30 a.m. Monday, assembles at 8 a.m. at post office, Valley Street. Program follows at Town Square. Conducted by American Legion Post 677, Catholic War Veterans Post 1079 and AMVETS Post 256, New Philadelphia.

ORWIGSBURG — Parade, 8 a.m. Monday.

PINE GROVE — Parade, 9 a.m. Monday, down Tulpehocken Street. Ceremony follows at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Sponsored by Pine Grove Legion Post 374.

PORT CARBON — Parade, 9 a.m. Monday, followed by service at Veterans Park Gazebo, near Janet Eich Library, Port Carbon.

POTTSVILLE — Parade, 10:30 a.m. Monday. Parade forms at 12th and West Market streets. Ceremony, 11 a.m., Garfield Square. Speakers include city Councilmen Joe Devine and Mark Atkinson. Registration for Memorial Mile Race, 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., CACL parking lot, 18th and West Market streets.

RINGTOWN — Service, 10 a.m. Monday, Old White Church, Ringtown. Sponsored by Ringtown American Legion Post 289.

SCHOENTOWN — Service, 2 p.m. Monday, Vietnam Veterans Joseph C. Cappell Memorial Home.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Service, 1:30 p.m. Monday, Schuylkill County Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Route 61. Conducted by Vietnam Veterans Post 29.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Parade, 10 a.m. Monday. Service will be held after parade.

SHENANDOAH — Parade 8:30 a.m. Monday, program 9 a.m., Veterans Memorial. Sponsored by Combined Veterans of Shenandoah Area.

SUMMIT HILL — Parade, 11 a.m. Monday. Sponsored by Summit Hill American Legion Post 316.

WICONISCO — Service, 8 a.m. Monday, Pottsville Street. In case of rain, program at Calvary United Methodist Church, Pottsville Street. Breakfast served at Wiconisco Firehouse following ceremony, sponsored by Calvary United Methodist Church and Wiconisco Fire Company.
