34 year old Tonya J. Schaner, of Hamburg, is headed to Berks County Court after waiving her right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday on charges she stole more than $80,000 from Upper Bern Township while working as its secretary/treasurer.
According to the Republican Herald, State police at Hamburg charged Schaner, who worked for the Township from Jan. 23, 2011, through Feb. 8, with stealing $81,115.70.
Magisterial District Judge Andrea J. Book bound over charges for court once Schaner waived her right to the hearing. Book also allowed Schaner to remain free on $30,000 unsecured bail pending further court proceedings.
She is scheduled to appear in court on July 2 in Reading for her formal arraignment.
