Firefighter struck...

A Pottsville man is free on bail after the vehicle he was driving struck a volunteer firefighter directing traffic Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Republican Herald, the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. in the area of the Mount Carbon Arch when emergency personnel and vehicles were blocking southbound traffic on South Centre Street due to flooding under the arch.

Authorities say 63 year old Thomas Hollywood ignored the instructions of emergency personnel and drove around the emergency vehicles, striking a 54 year old volunteer firefighter who was directing traffic. Hollywood then fled the area.

Hollywood was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley, Pottsville on Thursday and released on $25,000 unsecured bail pending a preliminary hearing.
