A Mother’s Day excursion will take place this Sunday, from Pottsville to Jim Thorpe, on two Rail Diesel Cars similar to the passenger trains that provided service from Pottsville to Philadelphia more than 30 years ago and will be the first time a trip featuring such cars will depart from Pottsville since passenger service stopped in the early 1980s.
The excursion is open to the general public, however, anyone wishing to purchase tickets for Sunday’s trip have to sign up by 4 p.m. today by calling the railroad at 610-562-2102.
The trains will leave the city’s Union Station Intermodal Transit Center at 300 S. Centre St. at 9 a.m. Sunday and return by 6 p.m.
The two Budd Rail Diesel Cars, No. 9166 and No. 9168, are currently parked outside Union Station for public viewing.
