The Schuylkill County public defender’s office will be able to serve more clients after the commissioners approved a supplemental budget appropriation for the group.
According to the Republican Herald, under the new appropriation, the office will receive $40,000 more, which Director of Finance Paul E. Buber said is needed to handle an enlarged caseload. T
hose clients will come from the two state correctional institutions in the county, SCI/Frackville and SCI/Mahanoy, Buber said.
However, that money will not come from local taxpayers’ pockets, as the county will get reimbursed100 percent by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
