Thirty smoke detectors were given away at the fourth Public Safety Night Out in Pottsville on Monday night.
The event, organized by the Pottsville Fire Department, was held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the lower level of Martz Hall in the parking lot, featuring equipment from all seven fire companies in Pottsville, the Schuylkill Haven Dive Rescue and Recovery Team, equipment from the Minersville Fire Department, construction equipment, a Med-Evac helicopter from Lehigh Valley and a Schuylkill EMS ambulance.
Free finger print demonstrations were held by the Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Department. The Pottsville police were also represented.
The event started after the tragic house fire on Mother’s Day 2013 at 235 Pierce St. Six people died, four of them children. The home did not have working smoke detectors.
