The body of a young man was pulled from the Lehigh River on Tuesday night after a nearly two hour search by local rescue crews.
Family and friends of the drowning victim, 24 year old Angel Rivas, of Hazleton, called shortly before 6 p.m. to report the incident at the Lehigh River near the Glen Onoko area of the Lehigh Gorge State Park.
The man was first reported unaccounted for after he made his way through some rapids and lost control.
He went under and did not resurface.
Divers of the Lehighton fire department had to remove two young males and a female from the center of the river.
One male companion who tried to save the victim had taken in too much water and was flown to a Lehigh Valley trauma center.
An autopsy was scheduled yesterday.
