A deadly crash Tuesday morning closed a part of Route 54 in Northumberland County.
Ralpho Township Police said 32 year old Joseph Payne, of Shamokin, was traveling west on Route 54 between Dave's Flowers and High Road at around 8:15 a.m. when the accident occurred.
Police said Payne had attempted to overtake another vehicle when the car went out of control and started fishtailing. Payne’s vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane traveling sideways and struck the front of a Chevy Tahoe driven by 38 year old Daniel Kelly, of Pottsville.
Police said Payne was pronounced dead on the scene.
Kelly was taken to Geisinger Medical Center for evaluation.
