Schuylkill County officials are urging citizens to call 911 for emergencies only, after a widespread phone service outage occurred just after 2pm Thursday, in the northern part of Schuylkill County.
John Matz, county emergency management coordinator, said the outage also extended into Luzerne and Carbon counties.
Service Electric was reportedly updating its modem and phone systems, when a large amount of equipment went offline and a message went out to the cable provider's customers telling them to call 911 for more information and outage updates.
Customers can call Service Electric at 570-454-3841 for information on service.
SCEMS is stressing to county citizens to contact 911 for emergencies only.
