by News Department on 07/13/15On Friday, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded two Schuylkill County fire departments each with Assistance to Firefighters Grants, with funding to be distributed via the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Rep. Cartwright, a member of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, said he is happy to see this funding come to Schuylkill County, and he congratulated both the Sheppton-Oneida Volunteer Fire Company and the Deer Lake & West Brunswick Fire Co. #1 on successful grant applications.
The purpose of the AFG is to award competitive grants directly to fire departments to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public, as well as that of first-responder personnel.
