Mahanoy Township Chief of Police Brandon Alexander is warning residents to secure their homes because of burglaries in the area, with the two most recent in the Morea/New Boston area.
He said the department believes the burglaries are due to people needing money for heroin, with jewelry being popular in the thefts, in order to sell.
Alexander is also asking residents to inform police if they are going away on vacation so police can increase patrols in those areas.
