A meeting will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Tilden Township Municipal Building, 874 Hex Highway, Hamburg to address the problems near “The Rock” in Tilden Township.
To reach The Rock, visitors walk about a mile from the parking area beside the Kernsville Dam, or swim across the river from a small beach on the Schuylkill County side, in West Brunswick Township, below Port Clinton Avenue.
Many, who do the latter park illegally on the road, leave trash in the area and cause other problems.
The Rock sits on the Berks County side of the Schuylkill River, in Tilden Township. The state owns the area of the Kernsville Dam and surrounding property. Blue Mountain Wildlife Inc. maintains the area.
Steps were taken Monday to inform visitors about the need to keep boat ramps clear for emergency personnel, as they had difficulty accessing the area due to traffic and the sheer number of people in the area Sunday when 26 year old Essam Saba, Allentown, died after struggling in the water while swimming across the Schuylkill River.
State Rep. Jerry Knowles, R-124, will lead the meeting, which is not open to the public or the media.
