A Pottsville man was charged by city police, Thursday, for injuring a dog to the extent it had to have a leg amputated.
According to the Republican Herald, the charges against 49 year old Alton Hinson Jr. stem from an investigation into a July 3 incident where officers were called to 234 Wallace St. around 2 a.m. for a domestic disturbance.
Police Chief Richard F. Wojciechowsky said that while there, officers learned that a dog had been slammed onto a concrete patio.
In addition to the injured dog, officers found at least four other dogs in the residence along with a litter of puppies, none of which were receiving any veterinary care and were not licensed.
Felony cruelty to animals charges were filed against Hinson on Thursday with Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley, Pottsville.
