Commissioners allocate funds...

Due to an increase in child placements, the Schuylkill County commissioners, on Wednesday, approved a $500,000 allocation for Children & Youth.

According to the Republican Herald, Lisa Stevens, Children & Youth executive director, said, “Most of the placements have been due to severe drug-related issues.”

Paul Buber, county finance director, said the money comes from the county’s contingency fund. The agency has had 324 placements this year as of June 30, an increase of 88 from this time last year.

Stevens also stated that the agency is working with the commissioners to fill positions, as they are now understaffed, due to a significant increase in caseloads.
