Historic grave damaged...

A historic tombstone in Schuylkill County has been vandalized.

John Pott, who founded the city of Pottsville in 1806, died in 1827.

His grave is in Charles Baber Cemetery in Pottsville.

Staff at the cemetery said they noticed the tablet part of his tombstone had been knocked down and broken about two weeks ago, but because they didn’t see how it happened, police are not investigating.

Cemetery workers say vandalism is common, explaining they often find kids trespassing in the cemetery after dusk.

Cemetery staff say overnight patrols have been increased.

Anyone with information on the vandalism should call Pottsville police.
