A Schuylkill County man is going to be recognized as the 2015 Little League Volunteer of the Year.
John Murtin, of Barnesville, has been chosen for this year's award. Murtin has helped the Mahanoy City's Little League for 51 years, 46 of those were coaching.
He now works the press box at the field.
Murtin was also a former teacher, principal, and superintendent for the Mahanoy Area School District.
The Little League Volunteer of the Year Award was created in 1989 with the purpose of recognizing the countless hours of volunteer service that millions of volunteers put in to assure that their Little League is operated to its fullest potential.
Mr. Murtin will be recognized at a breakfast and during an on-field ceremony at the 2015 Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport on Thursday, August 27th.
