What began as a report of a domestic incident between a woman and her ex-boyfriend may have led police to the discovery of an illegal drug lab in Kline Township.
The Republican Herald reports that the chain of events began Monday afternoon when a female caller accused 48 year old Gerald R. Fisher Jr. of throwing sulfuric acid on her during a heated argument.
As the investigation into the assault continued into the evening, items found in and around the home were said to be consistent with items found in methamphetamine laboratories, and seized by police.
Authorities said it could take a few months until items seized from the home are examined by a crime laboratory and a definitive report is furnished to police.
Kline Township Police Chief John Petrilla said he arrested Fisher and arraigned Monday afternoon by Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer, Tamaqua, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to immediately post bail.
