A Philadelphia County judge dismissed all but one count of a defamation lawsuit filed against state Attorney General Kathleen Kane by a former agent who headed the 2009 corruption investigation she alleged was racially biased.
According to the Republican Herald, Judge Denis P. Cohen said Kane is immune from liability in the lawsuit filed by former agent Claude Thomas because she was speaking in her official capacity as attorney general when she criticized the investigation.
He let stand one count in which Thomas sought a “name-clearing” hearing.
Thomas, of Philadelphia, filed suit in April, alleging Kane hurt his reputation with public comments she made in response to a March 16, 2014, story in the Philadelphia Inquirer that revealed she did not pursue charges against several state legislators who were caught on tape accepting bribes.
